What Not to Expect From Your SEO Expert

A whole lot has recently been written about what to anticipate from your SEO expert:

Submission and Promotion of the Content across Article sites and Social sites

Analyzing (Traffic, Users etc) and Reporting (Links Built)
Create a Value-based SEO Strategy that benefits Users/Customers
Create a quality and sustainable SEO strategy for the achievements of your online business

Yet this post is not about that!

I made the decision to write down something for the clients, so they can understand – “What CERTAINLY NOT to expect from their SEO expert”.

This is not an act of rebellion against my clients, or potential clients (as if I will disapproval my livelihood: -), but rather an upfront statement based on client relationships over the years.

Virtually all of these were relatively harmless questions from harmless clients, but some originate from clients with strong objectives of what they thought were the roles and duties of their SEO expert.

# Don’t expect the SEO expert will increase your sales

Whilst SEO will raise the targeted traffic to your website, it cannot ensure that the user will convert to a sale. The sale is determined by your product, services, rates, credibility in business, the demand and provide, and also the way they are marketed online.

But you can build metrics for figuring out conversions (ROI – Go back of Investment) like on an user submission of an enquiry form, or an user registration, or signing up for a newsletter and so out

# Don’t expect a brand new site be ranked in 2 to 3 several weeks

I won’t beat around the bush. A new site will generally take 6 to 7 a few months before the selected keywords start ranking on web page #1 of search results. Yes it can help if you are creating valuable content, syndicating and promoting that content, working on a blog, participate in relevant social communities and building relevant links, but that does not mean that you don’t have to cross the “time threshold”.

When you have a domain 3 years or older, it will generally be much easier to start seeing results in less than a few months. If perhaps you have already recently been doing quality link building and following SEO concepts, and looking for boosting your visibility and ranking, then the “time threshold” can be greatly reduced.

# Don’t expect search rankings to change weekly

SEO is not cause and effect. What this means is that if your SEO expert will do a, b and c, then this results would be x, y and z. So don’t expect your search ranking to move up 5 places because you have done web directory submissions and social bookmarking a month ago. It just truly does not work in this way.

Everything you can expect is that after a period of concentrated efforts (generally 3 – 4 months) you will observe a mess jump in your search positions (sometimes even a few pages), of course depending on competition for those keywords.

# Don’t expect search position #1, #2, #3, #4…

Many clients ask for #1, #2, #3 rankings looking listings with a guarantee. Yes, is actually possible after a yr of effort, but even however will not give the client any assurance. Page #1 is the perfect target I suggest. There may be times you may have to even accept page #2 for very competitive keywords.

# Don’t expect a Guarantee

This highlights my point above. There is absolutely no assure possible. And if you will find a company or person willing to give you a guarantee, do check as there may be a catch.

Give attention to creating valuable content, ligue that content, and publicize it across relevant social, web and user communities. When you can do this consistently, you don’t need any warranties.
